The Great Wave off Kanagawa Hitbox Hit|Up Upgrade

The original "Water Stick" was made by my old friend Esom over at Plus on Block

Eventually it was upgraded to the "Wave Stick" using a panel that was machine made over at Ponoko. The site has some links to free resources that allowed me to create a design and prepare it for manufacturing all on my own. I will probably make a YouTube video about how to do this eventually.

The stick became more of a showpiece at this point. I left it on my shelf where I could admire it and was content to bang on my sturdy metal AFS hitbox case instead. Then the Cross|Up was announced and I was inspired to make a new custom panel. I personally feel like the use of the lever in this design was a disingenuous attempt to justify including two sets of directional inputs in the stick. This was done by connecting the lever inputs to the analog inputs on the controller PCB board and then comparing it to the standard Sony DualShock controller.

Ultimately, it is still a poor substitute for actual buttons because of all the reasons that made hitbox superior to lever in the first place. Enter... the Hit|Up prototype design.

You can see the progression of how the final product was eventually constructed in this imgur album

Now that it is complete, I STILL don't use this fightstick that much because I am afraid the design will not be allowed in official tournaments. I do not want to spend time committing commands to muscle memory when it would basically be considered cheating. I may make a video showing off some of the advantages of this setup in the future though.
